Zoos are good because:
Zoos save endangered animals by putting them into a safer environment to protect them from poachers, loss of habitat, starvation and predators.
Lots of zoos breed animals. In the wild these individuals could have trouble finding mates.
A good zoo provides an enriched habitat in which an animal is snever bored, and well cared for.
Seeing an animal in person is a much more memorable experience than seeing it on TV and can cause empathy towards animals.
Some zoos take in pets that are no longer wanted or can not be cared for.
Zoos are bad because:
No matter how bit a zoo is, there will never be anough space.
Animals have been recorded behaving unnaturally and showing signs of depression.
Zoos restrict natural behaviour, for example, birds can't fly.
Animals that are being bread in a zoo can't be released into the wild because they wouldn't know how to hunt.
Conclusion
I think zoos are good because they support endangered animals. Personally, I think nature reserves are better than zoos though, because they protect the animals whilst keeping them in the wild. I made a poster about zoos and I am going to present it to my classmates tomorrow. I am interested to learn what their opinion is. What do you think? Are zoos good or bad?
