Today, I visited the Roald Dahl museum in Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire. Roald Dahl moved to Great Missenden in 1954 and he lived there for 36 years until he died in 1990. I saw his Writing Hut that was specially built and where Roald Dahl wrote all of his children's books. You could sit in a replica of his chair - it looked big and comfortable.
Many of his stories are set in and around the village. We went for a walk and saw many of the things that gave Dahl the ideas like a petrol pump for Danny the Champion of the World and a wood for Fantastic Mr Fox.
The museum was opened in 2005. We saw the figure of the BFG on the wall as we approached the High Street.
It was interesting what Roald Dahl's daily routine was. He started writing every day at 10am, he had lunch at 12pm until 4pm and then carried on writing until 6pm.
There are 3 different sections in the museum.
Boy Gallery
You can explore about Roald Dahl's childhood here and learn about his pranks and love of chocolate. There are also some family photos. He played pranks at school, like when he put a rat in a jar of gobstoppers.
Solo Gallery
This is the room is about Roald Dahl's life and how he became a writer. There was information about his crash in the desert over Libya during the Second World War. In the story he wrote that he was shot down but he actually ran out of fuel and was forced to crash-land. There was a height chart which showed all of his character's heights for you to measure against. I am the same height as George from George's Marvellous Medicine.
The Story Centre
This room is designed to inspire people to write their own stories. There are lots of different activities such as 'The Movie Maker'.
